SILCHAR: Dr. Joyeeta Bhattacharjee, a noted scholer and a champion of the Indo-Bangladesh relationship, passed away earlier today at New Delhi's Ganga Ram hospital from complications related to the COVID-19 virus.

Both Joyeeta and her husband Subimal Bhattacharjee tested positive for the COVID-19 last month. The latter confirmed this via a Twitter post.

"Today 11 April, myself and Joyeeta are confirmed COVID19 positive: last 7 April we tested negative: both being RT PCR tests. Luckily we are admitted since last night and under treatment and will fight this and come out victorious. Not many of you have come in touch as we were isolated away in the farms for a week before turning positive, but please do test if you did come across. Please keep praying and kindly don’t call out of concern: we respect your feelings: please stay safe," he wrote.

Subimal is still admitted to the hospital and is reportedly recovering from the virus.

Wife of Subimal Bhattacharjee and daughter of the former member of parliament Rajya Sabha late Nripati Ranjan Choudhury, Joyeeta Bhattacharjee is a scholar of South Asia who specialized in Indo-Bangladesh ties and her work can be found in a number of publications.

Research and engagement on the bilateral relationship were made richer by her contributions.

She was a vital member of the Observer Research Foundation (ORF) for 15 years and the organization has condoled her death.
