Teok: With an aim to winning a bulk of the votes, Assam's Congress leader will now be campaigning in the tea gardens ahead of the 2021 polls in Assam. The party's leaders have been advised to mingle with the tea garden lot by Congress' General Secretary Jitendra Singh himself who is in Assam to oversee the preparations for the polls.

"Yesterday, we had a rally in Dibrugarh that was attended by representatives of all 40 tea estates of Assam. Jitendra Singh has now advised us to go to the tea gardens and the villages. To stay with the common folks and take stock of their problems," Congress leader Rockybul Hussain said on the sidelines of a star-studded Congress event in Teok, Jorhat.

In contrast, Hussain added, the state BJP leadership carries out operations from the comfort of 5-star hotels.

With all the political parties in Assam gearing up to contest the 2021 polls in Assam, the Congress has sounded its war cry in Upper Assam's Teok.

Addressing a function that was attended by a large number of supporters of the party, Congress General Secretary Jitendra Singh exuded confidence of winning a good percentage of vote in next year's polls. Endorsing Pallabi Saikia Gogoi, Singh called on the supporters to ensure that they vote for the party candidate and ensure that she becomes the MLA from the Constituency.

Teok (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is one of the 126 assembly constituencies of Assam Legislative Assembly.

Teok forms part of the Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency. Renupoma Rajkhowa from the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) is the sitting MLA in this particularly Constituency. Pallabi Saikia Gogoi had received the second-highest number of votes in the last elections.

Meanwhile, the BJP party is yet to announce the "seat sharing" for the ensuing polls. Assam's Finance, Health, and Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has recently said that the party is yet to decide which candidates to field next year's polls.

Senior Congress leader Rockybul Hussain, addressing the Congress supporters, said that Singh has directed the party's functionaries to campaign in the tea garden areas. It needs mention here that the tea tribe, which forms a major voting bloc, plays a crucial role in each Assembly elections. Campaigning in tea gardens and making election promises is one of the important aspects of any election.
