NRC claims, objections: APW urges Supreme Court to ensure process go through officials of different districtsNRC
Guwahati (Assam), September 8, 2018:

Social organisation Assam Public Works (APW) has urged the Supreme Court to take steps to ensure that claims and objections for National Register of Citizens (NRC) in each district are heard by either officials from a different district or districts or a mix of officials of the home district and other district or districts.

Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Saturday, APW general secretary Dhruvajyoti Talukdar said they stressed on quality check of each NSK to be audited by a third party engaged by the Supreme Court. Explaining it, he said, claims and objections in one district should be heard by officials from other districts or there should be at least a mix match of officials.

Officials of one district alone should not be allowed to decide claims and objections relating to the said district, Talukdar insisted. He said the purported inclusion of names of people who were declared foreigners or doubtful voters in the complete draft NRC in Morigaon district was a very serious matter.
