BJP MLA from Hojai Shiladitya Dev is of the opinion that the exercise of updating National Register of Citizens (NRC) will be a ‘farce’ because of the dearth of skilled people involved in NRC related work.
In an interview with Inside Northeast, Dev said, ”If you want to have an-error free NRC we need more skilled people. Those engaged in NRC related work are not at all skilled. I have been repeatedly saying this for the last three years .The entire NRC process is going to be a farce at the last moment because I don’t see dedicated people.”
“It seems that people are interested in taking some sorts of revenge. They want to target some particular community and put them behind bars and make them foreigners in their own motherland,” Shiladitya Dev added.
According to the BJP legislator those involved in preparing voter list or census are not trained at all.
“Take voter list of last ten years, you will find so many mistakes. If a person is female they will show her as male and there are lots of spelling mistakes. What has happened is with years of mistakes in voter list when people are going to fill up their names in the NRC, they are unable to justify. Because, somebody’s name has been wrongly written in the list and now they are not accepting,” he pointed out.
Dev termed the phenomenon as a ‘big crisis’. “A big Pandora’s Box will be opened after July 31. Then we will know in which direction Assam will be going,” he quipped.
