NRC officials to be exempted from Lok Sabha election: State Election Commission

Guwahati, March 8, 2019:

The state Election Commission on Friday has ordered all the departments of the state to exempt the National Register of Citizen (NRC) officials from Lok Sabha election duty to ensure the continuation of NRC process in the state.

The Supreme Court has also ordered the NRC co-ordinator, State Government and the EC for the continuation of NRC proceedings during the Lok Sabha elections

The state EC stated that it has decided to attract women voters of the state by forming a women’s help desk- “Sarathi” for which renowned environmentalist of Assam, Green Oscar Purnima Devi Barman, and Mr World Golap Rabha will be the youth icon for the poll awareness campaign.

Meanwhile, an awareness rally titled ‘Vote for a run’ is also scheduled on March 11 at Latasil playground in Guwahati.
