Assam National Register of Citizens (NRC) co-ordinator Prateek Hajella has finally broken his silence and reacted to the allegations of corruption against the NRC officials.
A statement released from the office of the NRC co-ordinator stated that any official found involved in any illegal activity will be punished as per law. "However, preliminary findings indicate that the NRC officials at Ganeshguri NSK of Dispur Circle have no role to play in the matter of inclusion or exclusion of the claimant or complainant", read the communique.
Further, the NRC Coordinator stated that the hearing of the NRC claimant had already been completed in May at a different venue and that results of the hearing have also been recorded and received in Central servers.
Moreover, through the statement, the Coordinator assured that such incidents will not affect the quality of the NRC.
It may be mentioned that sleuths of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday caught Field Level Officer (FLO) of the Sewa Kendra of Dispur 8 at Ganeshguri Syed Shahjahan (48) red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000/-.
The sleuths conducted the raid following a complaint lodged by Mrs Kajari Ghosh Dutta of Ananda Nagar under Dispur Police Station in Guwahati.
The bribe money has been seized from the possession of the accused. Another accused Rahul Parasar (27), Assistant Local Registrar of Citizen Registration (LRCR) of the same NRC Sewa Kendra involved in the crime was also arrested.
Relevant documents have also been seized by the ACB team from the office of the Sewa Kendra.
The final draft of the National Register of Citizens will be published on July 31 as directed by the Supreme Court.
