APW demands 100 percent re-verification of NRC before 2021 Assam assembly elections APW demands 100 percent re-verification of NRC before 2021 Assam assembly elections

Guwahati (Assam), September 5, 2018:

The Supreme Court on Wednesday deferred the process of filing of claims and objections in National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam till ‘further orders’.

A bench of Justices Ranjan Gogoi and RF Nariman issued the order following examination of a report submitted by NRC state coordinator Prateek Hajela.

The Bench also asked Attorney General of India KK Venugopal and other stakeholders to file their response on Hajela’s report within two weeks. The bench scheduled the next hearing on the issue on September 19.

It may be mentioned that on August 28, the apex court had stated that it could consider re-verification of about 10 per cent of applicants whose names were included in the complete draft NRC.
