In a recent development, the drivers of Ola and Uber begin their indefinite strike on Monday which has badly hit Guwahati. The indefinite strike has been called by the transport wing of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena in Mumbai, drivers in New Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune and other big cities of the country against the low payments made by the app-based taxi aggregators. As per reports, the strike is an indefinite one and as per the organizers the cabs will be off the roads till their demands are met.
As alleged by the drivers, they had been hoping to make Rs 1.5 lakh a month after investing Rs.5-7 lakh but have not been able to recover even half of that because of the mismanagement by these companies. Reportedly, Ola and Uber had earlier given big assurances to them but they are unable to cover their costs. Many are unable to even pay the monthly instalment for the loans on their cabs due to low income. It may be stated that the strike will definitely disrupt the life of many people who rely on the app-based services as cabs will be running in a very less number, probably the company owned ones which are being driven by drivers dispatched by the company itself.
