GUWAHATI: When Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary stepped down as the Working President of the Bodoland People's Front on November 11, it came as a huge shock to the BPF supporters, as Daimary, over the years, has cemented his reputation as one of the stalwarts of the party. His announcement that he would join the BJP party was also quite the revelation. Yesterday, in a tell-all interview with Inside Northeast, Daimary gave more insights into his decision to switch parties ahead of the crucial polls in the Council.

Reacting to senior BPF leader Chandan Brahma's comments that the Rajya Sabha MP would be in a "dustbin" if he fails to secure a Ministerial berth with the BJP, Daimary said, "Nothing is impossible in politics. But the people who know me well will understand that I have not switched parties for my own selfish interests."

"In regards to dustbin -- nobody can predict the future as success and failure come in equal measure. One year ago, nobody could have anticipated that the BPF would have . I have been with the BPF for long. And now, its become an old dustbin. I believe that if I begin dwelling in a new dustbin instead of the old one, it will be good for me," Daimary added.
The Rajya Sabha MP further stated that he was the one who introduced the likes of Chandan Brahma to Himanta Biswa Sarma, the BJP's point-man in the Northeast. "In 2004, around the time the BTC pact was signed, I was the one who introduced them to Himanta Biswa Sarma. Biswa Sarma had apprehensions before meeting them as they were former militants," Daimary said, adding th
Reflecting on his journey with the BPF, Daimary said, "The camaraderie is still there. We had a good team of simple men and women. However, in politics, there are some episodes that you simply cannot avoid. I will always maintain goodwill from my side." Daimary further added that he has compelled to switch parties over differences of opinion over certain policies.
