Old Video of 'CAA' Martyr Dipanjal Das Working in Kitchen Surfaces, Leaves Assam in Grief

Guwahati, December 29, 2019:

An old video that shows Dipanjal Das, one of the five Assamese martyred during the protests against the amendment of the Citizenship Act, at his workplace, has surfaced online.

The video, that has been shared by a certain Jitul Saloi on Facebook, has filled the people of Assam with sorrow, as Dipanjal Das is seen alive and healthy, working at his place of employment, a local restaurant.

Netizens were quick to express their sorrow at this sight of Dipanjal being hale and hearty.

Dipanjal's life was nipped in the bud when he was struck by bullets fired by security personnel after the protests against the Bill-turned-Act took a violent turn. Dipanjal, who was struck by bullets while protesting at the Lachit Nagar area in Guwahati metro, was later shifted to the GMCH hospital, where he breathed his last.

Yesterday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was seen comforting Das' mother on a visit to the martyr's residence at Doloipara in Chaygaon in Assam's Kamrup district.

Gandhi, along with other Congress leaders, during his visit to Dipanjal's residence, also paid tribute to the deceased, and spoke words of comfort to his mother.

Meanwhile, Congress MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed has also promised an e-rickshaw and jobs for Dipanjal’s elder sister and younger brother Dipankar Das.

Earlier, Gandhi had also visited the residence of Sam Stefford, a 17-year-old martyr of the anti-CAA movement, where he also paid his rich tributes.

Following an announcement made by the former AICC president Rahul Gandhi, the Congress handed over Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of each of the two martyred during the agitation against the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) in Guwahati.
