All Assam Students' Union (AASU) General Secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi, who has been at the forefront of the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act, today thundered at Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and compared him to a "cat."
Addressing a massive gathering here today, Gogoi stated, "A son of this soil was Sarbananda Sonowal. In 1992, he was appointed as President of the AASU. The public thought that if peril knocked at the door, Sonowal would roar against the injustice...he would rise like a lion. He would never accept injustice."

"During the last election, people voted for him because earlier parties had disappointed", Lurin said, adding, "however, people saw him for what he is...he was not a lion, but rather, a cat. People saw that he was a cat, not a lion".
Stating that the Citizenship Amendment Act would never be accepted by the proud Assamese, the AASU leader thundered, "Assamese people will never accept a position as second-class citizens on their own soil...they will never bow down in front of Bangladeshi migrants."
At the rally in Chabua, Assam Chief Minister Sonowal's home, many protesters opined to the media that the former AASU President has let them down with his compliance in the implementation of the contentious Bill-turned-Act by the Centre.
"Ever since he became a lotus (or BJP) man, everything came unstuck", lamented an old rally-goer.
