Assam’s heart-throb and cultural icon Zubeen Garg was thrust into the middle of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill struggle after he openly declared his opposition to the Bill in a letter posted on social media addressed to CM Sarbananda Sonowal which went viral. Months on, Zubeen has stated that he is still committed to fighting the Bill in case it is ever brought up again.
“We all fought against the CAB in unity and we are still opposing it and we will never let the Bill be implemented. But I won’t speak about the political parties, as things are more complicated for them. I won’t speak on politics, but I assure that we will always oppose the Bill”, he said, in the middle of shooting for his new film ‘Kanchenjunga’.
Upon being asked about the AGP-BJP reunion, the icon said: “I have no idea why the AGP is reuniting with the BJP. Perhaps it is some political game or some mutual understanding. Perhaps it is because of the lure for power. Whatever it is, the public is together, all organizations and civil unions are together and we will fight together.”
