The seven-phase mega election is underway in the world’s largest democracy, India. This election will decide who will sit on the thrones at the end of the process, but while the discussions turn towards netas and abhinetas, the common man tends to get overlooked. Security personnel, who make the conduct of “free and fair” elections possible, are among these ‘unsung heroes’.
On Tuesday, a Facebook post by an Assamese Police jawan who is currently deployed in Cachar (under Silchar Constituency) has blown up social media. The pictures posted on social media shows that the personnel are being deprived of even the basic camping facilities.
The post shows the deplorable conditions in which these jawans are being lodged in the state. In the pictures, a large hall can be seen where many jawans are loitering. The waterlogged hall is apparently being used by the jawans as their place of cooking, bathing, and sleeping. One glance at the hall would make one shudder due to the lack of hygiene.

This single picture shows the callousness towards the protectors of democracy, the jawans. The administration has been heavily condemned by netizens after this photograph went viral, while some expressed hope that things will change for the better in the future.
Any responsible citizen would say that the Government should take note of the hardships faced by the jawans and take measures to remedy the issue.
