JAGIROAD: Assam minister of state for health Pijush Hazarika today filed his nomination as a BJP candidate from Jagiroad constituency in Morigaon district for the second phase of Assam assembly elections.
A close associate of BJP strongman Himanta Biswa Sarma, Hazarika was accompanied by chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal at the time filing nomination.
“Pijush Hazarika has been a successful MLA. He has done very good job during his past terms as MLA. I am sure, the people of Jagiroad will once again elect him with full support,” Sonowal said.

On his way to file nomination, Hazarika, who did a Himanta act climbing atop his vehicle through the sunroof, was accompanied by his actress wife Aimee Baruah and their children along with a huge crowd of supporters, including a number of local party leaders.
A resident of Raha in Nagaon district, Hazarika had represented Raha as a Congress MLA in 2011-16 term before shifting to Jagiroad in the 2016 elections.
Jagiroad will go to polls on April 1.
