The Guwahati Traffic Police has lifted pillion riding in the city with effect from Saturday. However, the police has asked the citizens to wear masks, helmets and follow all the COVID-19 protocols while riding two wheelers.
“Ref queries regarding pillion riding on 2 wheelers. It is not banned anymore. But please wear helmets, masks and follow all COVID protocols,” Guwahati Traffic Police tweeted.
On the other hand, the Assam government withdrew weekend lockdown and night curfew in the state from Saturday. Assam chief secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna on Friday issued a new set of guidelines for Unlock 4 which allows a list of activities.

According to the new guidelines, all the schools, colleges, educational and coaching institutions for regular class activities in Assam will remain closed till September 30. However, students of class 9 to 12 are allowed to visit their schools on voluntary basis and with written consent of parents for guidance from teachers only.
On the other hand, 50 percent of teaching and non-teaching staff are allowed to attend educational institutions at a time for on line teaching/tele-counselling and related works only in areas outside of Containment Zones.
