Plying on Boats banned in Sonitpur

Tezpur (Assam), September 10, 2018:

After the horrific boat mishap in Guwahati where many people lost their lives, the Sonitpur district administration has banned all kinds of boat to ply over the Brahmaputra and the tributaries.

An official stated said that some of the boats are without any proper or prior permission and also had no minimal safety measures. This ‘negligence of having no minimal safety measures may be a threat to the lives of the people who travel through these boats and so the ban has been imposed.

A source added that until further notice boats which have no fitness certificate, safety measures and licence of the pilots will be completely banned.
