NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed his sorrow over the boat tragedy in Assam and said that all possible efforts are being made to rescue the passengers.
A boat with over 120 people on board sank in the Brahmaputra river after colliding with a ferry steamer near Nimatighat in Jorhat district of Assam on Wednesday.
42 people have been rescued so far. One woman died. So far, 4 people have been reported missing and the entire picture will become clear in 2-3 hours, officials said.
"Saddened by the boat accident in Assam. All possible efforts are being made to rescue the passengers. I pray for everyone's safety and well-being," PM Modi tweeted in a post in Assamese.
