PM Modi launches Mahabahu-Brahmaputra initiative ahead of polls in Assam

DHUBRI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Mahabahu-Brahmaputra, laid the foundation stone of Dhubri-Phulbari Bridge, and performed Bhoomi Poojan for the construction of Majuli Bridge in Assam through video conferencing today.

Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Mansukh Mandaviya and Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal, Finance, PWD & Health Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sharma are present on the occasion.

The projects are expected to give a much-needed boost for large numbers of people in Assam and Meghalaya in terms of better connectivity.

The launch of Mahabahu-Brahmaputra was marked by the inauguration of the Ro-Pax vessel operations between Neamatighat and Majuli, North and South Guwahati and Dhubri-Hatsingimari.

It also includes Shilanyas for construction of tourist jetties at four locations to promote employment and river tourism.
