Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to visit the north-eastern BJP strongholds of Manipur and Assam today. Modi is scheduled to arrive at 12 pm to inaugurate eight projects as well as lay the foundation stones of four projects in capital Imphal.
Security in the state has been beefed up in response to rebel groups’ calling for boycott in protest against the Prime Minister’s visit. Chief Minister of Manipur N Biren Singh on Thursday said that preparations are being made to give a rousing reception to the PM.
Modi is also scheduled to visit Kalinagar in Silchar’s Barak Valley today for a rally to kick off the first leg of his election campaign. A hundred such rallies are being planned by the BJP in seventy days in a bid to win 21 out of the 25 Lok Sabha seats in the north-eastern region. The rally in Silchar is estimated to start at 2:30 pm.
It is to be mentioned that the north-eastern region is seen as a pivotal battleground for the BJP as it attempts to project itself as an ‘all-India’ party.
