Police destroy hooch den of ‘mafia’ Guddu Sonar at Ledo

MARGHERITA: Ledo Police today raided the residence of notorious hooch ‘mafia’ Guddu Sonar at Ledo Bengali Gaon (Pother Basti) under and destroyed a huge quantity of illicit hooch and materials used in preparing hooch.

Acting on a specific tipoff by the Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) Margherita regional committee, the raid was conducted by the police under the leadership of Ledo PS in-charge Uttam Tamang.

AJYCP’s Tinsukia district committee general secretary Kanchan Bora said despite several complaints to excise department in Margherita, no action was initiated against Sonar.

However, the sudden raid by police has been appreciated by residents of Ledo Bengali Gaon (Pother Basti) and the youth organisation would take more similar action against anti-social elements in the future, he added.
