DHUBRI: Assam Police fire with two rounds of bullets aiming at the tyre of the escaping vehicle of cattle smugglers to prevent escape in Assam's Dhubri district yesterday and managed to blow the wheel of the vehicle.
Six cattle were smuggled into Assam from West Bengal aboard a four-wheeler that crossed the Assam-Bengal border through Chagolia in Dhubri district.
Chagolia police were alerted and performed routine checks on the National Highway in the Golakganj region after receiving a tip.
Meanwhile, at midnight a vehicle bearing registration WB-63B-4552 breaking the law, somehow escape the routine checking.

Following that, police chased the vehicle down the road from Agomani to Golakganj, and in order to stop it, they had to fire two rounds of bullets into the escaping vehicle's tyre, which succeeded to blow the wheel off.
Six cattle were recovered from the vehicle, but the driver managed to escape in the dark, leaving the damaged vehicle, said Chagolia Sub-inspector Prashanta Das.
