The Guwahati Police on Thursday enforced prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC banning the entry of an eight-member delegation of Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs and MLAs from West Bengal into the city.
The TMC delegation was held up at the Kumbhirgram airport in Silchar on Thursday following their arrival from Kolkata. It was scheduled to visit Guwahati on Friday.
In an order, Guwahati Police Commissioner Hiren Chandra Nath said, “No passenger carrier including surface or air transport shall carry such persons to the area under Police Commissionerate, Guwahati. The order shall remain in force in the territorial area of Guwahati Police Commissionerate with effect from 01.08.2018 until further orders”.
Stating that controversial and inflammatory comments and statements were made by TMC leaders, Nath said the order was issued as the members of the TMC delegation were likely to make similar statements if allowed to visit Guwahati.
