DHUBRI: Assam Police fired bullets at the tyre of a fleeing vehicle of cattle traffickers in Assam's Dhubri district, successfully blowing the vehicle's wheel on late Saturday night.

Acting on a tip-off, Golakganj police fired rounds at a suspected cattle smugglers' bolero pickup bearing the registration number (WB- 63B- 3646), which tried to to flee violating the signal given by the police to stop.

Following that, police chased the vehicle down the road for 20 kilometres from Golakganj towards Dhubri via Tiyamari in Gauripur.

Golakganj police then immediately informed Gauripur police about the incident.

In order to prevent their escape, police had to fire five rounds of bullets into the escaping vehicle’s tyre, which succeeded to blow the wheel off.

Officer In-charge, Nabajit Nath of Golakganj said that the vehicle wheel was on fire after the blow-up of the tyre, the driver couldn't control the vehicle and fell into a nearby river, leaving the vehicle damaged.

Later, the Gauripur Police reached the spot and arrested the smuggling cattle vehicle driver along with two cattle smuggler and eight numbers of cattle being recovered from the vehicle.

The arrested accused cattle smugglers have been identified as Rofikul Hussain (Driver) resident of Chagolia, Part-ll, and Abdul Latif is a resident of Kaimbhashani.

Both the driver and the cattle smuggler have recently continued to be interrogated at Gauripur police station informed Officer In-charge, Nabajit Nath of Golakganj, Dhubri.
