GUWAHATI: In a major breakthrough, Assam Police has rescued as many as nine girls who were trafficked to Kerala from the state.
Police have also arrested two persons in connection with the crime.
ADGP of Assam GP Singh took to Twitter and informed that the victims belong to Hojai, Nagaon, Sonitpur, Morigaon and Kamrup (R) districts. The arrested persons have been identified as Muffazul Haque from Hojai and Rakbul Hussain from Nagaon.

Barun Purkayastha, Superintendent of Police of Hojai district has said the girls were rescued from three different places in Trivandrum, the capital city of Kerala.
"We received information that girls from various districts of Assam were being trafficked to Kerala. Following that, a complaint was registered in Lanka Police Station on July 11 under sections 370 (3)/370 (5) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). On July 13, a team of eight police officials of Hojai Police Station went to Kerala and with the help and guidance of the Trivandrum Police conducted raids in three places in Trivandrum. Police could rescue nine girls from five districts of Assam and also arrested two human trafficking agents.”

He said more arrests were likely once interrogation of the arrested traffickers begins.
