Guwahati, February 12, 2019:

Pramod Bodo, President of the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), Pramod Bodo has landed in Delhi to oppose the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016.

Speaking exclusively to InsideNE from Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma’s residence where Northeastern leaders have convened to hold discussions, Bodo questioned how the Northeastern people will be protected once the Bill become an Act.

“Already Assam and Northeast are bearing a large number of illegal infiltrators. National leaders have said that the Bill will affect all of India, but migration is mostly occurring in Assam and Northeast India and movements are going on. So many people died for protection of their identity and culture”, he said.

Accusing the BJP Government of sowing “chaos” and “confusion, he implored the ruling party Government to listen to the sentiments of the Northeast people as Assam and the Northeast are very much a part of India. He also cautioned that as long as the Government does not fulfill the promises made to the people, apprehension and movement will be there.

Slamming the BJP Government, Bodo further stated that it is very much clear that the Scheduled Tribe Bill (which seeks to grant ST status to 6 prominent communities of Assam) will affect the rights and privileges of the “downtrodden” existing ST people.

“The BPF is for power, they are not for the people.. They are not serious for development also If they are not for the protection of the people, how can they be for development?” he said, criticizing the BPF party ruling the BTAD region for not taking a stand against the Bill.
