The Assam State Election Commission of Assam has formally announced that elections will be conducted in the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) after dust from the recently concluded panchayat elections in Assam has settled down.
This is as per provision of the Assam Autonomous Districts (Constitution of Districts Councils) Rules, 1951. It is to be mentioned that the 5-year-term of the NCHAC has already expired. Taking due notice of the Judgement & Order of the Guwahati High Court, the election body has recommended that the electoral process be completed on or before 15/02/2019.
The Assam State Election Commission has called upon the NCHAC constituencies to re-elect members to re-constitute the NCHAC. It is to be mentined that the state machinery now contemplating on holding the Mising Autonomous Council (MAC), Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) and the Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council (SKAC) elections also in 2019.
