Popular singer Kalpana Patoway joined the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) on Friday. Patoway who has many popular Bhojpuri songs to her credit joined the regional party at a function held at its Ambari headquarters in Guwahati.
AGP president Atul Bora and other senior leaders of the party were present in the joining ceremony. The AGP leaders welcomed Patowary to the party.
After joining the party Patowary said that they should emphasise on implementing clause 6 of the Assam Accord. Earlier, the singer had also joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) but quit the party soon.

Kalpana Patowary is an Indian playback and folk singer from Assam. She sings in 30 languages. She participated in the reality show Junoon-Kuchh Kar Dikhaane Ka (2008) on NDTV Imagine. Although she has many folk and popular songs to her credit, Bhojpuri music has been her most dedicated foray.
Patowary was born on 27 October 1978 in Barpeta district in Assam.A graduate in English literature, Patowary is an alumnus of the prestigious Cotton College of Guwahati, an institution which is known for having counted among its students a host of literary geniuses, notable journalists and great statesmen. Trained in kamrupiya and goalporiya folk music by her folksinger father Sri Bipin Nath Patowary, Kalpana started to publicly perform at the tender age of 4 with her father and is also trained as Sangeet Visharad in Indian classical music from Bhatkhande Music Institute University, Lucknow.She sings many forms of Bhojpuri folk music including Purvi, Pachra, Kajri, Sohar, Vivaah geet, Chaita, and Nautanki.
Patowary has worked little on the works of Bhikhari Thakur and has released an album commemorating his life and work.
