Exclusive: COVID-19 Positive Man from Assam had been to Germany?positive

Karimganj, March 31, 2020:

A 52 year old from Hasanpur village in Assam's Karimganj district has earlier today tested positive for the new coronavirus or the COVID-19, it was disclosed. Now, new evidence suggests that the man tried to hide his tested positive status and was being treated as a cancer patient at a local hospital. Now, inputs suggest that the man had recently been to Germany, one of the countries that has been hit hard due to the outbreak.

Even more astoundingly, he developed symptoms on the 29th of this month, days after he had returned from New Delhi, which has emerged as the biggest hotspot for the virus in the country, with 7 who were in the city to attend a religious congregation having died already. Earlier, the Assam administration issued a red alert when it was discovered that several who had been to Nizamuddin in the past few days had returned to the State.

"The man hid everything from us, and went to the hospital discreetly. He went to Germany and had reportedly arrived on March 11. He then went to a hospital and claimed that he is a diabetic and cancer patient and was treated by a certain doctor, who chose not to disclose his condition", an official source told Inside Northeast. The source also told us that the man had returned on March 11 and started exhibiting symptoms on March 29.

The official source further informed us that the man interacted with many people from the village, including medical personnel. "He mingled with many in the village, as per my knowledge, mostly doctors; as per my knowledge, he consulted several doctors during the last couple of weeks amid deteriorating health", the official told us.

Now the question arises: why did the medical authorities hide that the man was suffering an infection caused by the contagion? Moreover, why did the man hide the fact that he has been infected by the COVID-19 keeping in view the danger posed by the virus across the nation?

It has just come to light that a 52-year-old man has tested positive for the new coronavirus, and it has just been confirmed by Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Biswa Sarma, tweeting about the development, has confirmed that the Karimganj man is the state's first case of the coronavirus and has been admitted at the Silchar Medical College. "His condition is stable", Sarma added in the tweet.

The man is reportedly a 52-year-old middle-aged businessman from Karimganj district and has been tested COVID-19 POSITIVE at the Silchar Medical College, one of the few designated testing centres in the State. The declaration has been made at a time when the entire state is holding its breath after several hundred Assamese people have been discovered visiting a religious congregation in Nizamuddin, New Delhi.
