GUWAHATI: Assam Cabinet Minister of Water Resources and Jagiroad MLA Pijush Hazarika has held Congress MP from Nagaon Pradyut Bordoloi responsible for two defunct Hindustan Paper Corporation (HPC) owned paper mills in Nagaon and Cachar.

"If I have to say then Pradyut Bordoloi is the reason why these two paper mills have become non-functional today," said Pijush Hazarika speaking with the presspersons.

MP Pradyut Bordoloi, also the Chairman of the Committee constituted by Assam Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Bhupen Kumar Borah to take stock of the recent developments regarding the two defunct paper mills, had slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party Government over the decision to auction both the paper mills. Bordoloi had also branded the decision as 'hollow'.

"Bordoloi was a Minister of Industry for the longest time being. At a time when the rate of coal was Rs. 6,000 per tonne only, at that time coal was bought at the price of Rs. 12,000 per tonne. When locals of Jagiroad were selling bamboos at a market rate of Rs. 2,200 per quintal it was bought for Rs. 4,200 from outer businessmen," Pijush Hazarika added.

"During that time Congress was in Centre as well in the state. They have destroyed these two paper mills altogether," Hazarika added further.

The Assam Government is in talks with the representatives of two defunct paper mills and promised to provide a sum of Rs. 570 crore relief package to them as the liquidator had served an eviction notice to the employees on September 3 and instructed them to vacate the quarters within 15 days. The deal is yet to be announced officially.
