The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) leader Promod Bodo has categorically denied the allegations made against ABSU members regarding forcibly filing objections against minority people in the National Register of Citizens (NRC) draft.
Speaking to Inside Northeast, Promod Boro said that the reports of withdrawal of 1 lakh objections have no grounds in reality as it is not known whether 1 lakh objections were filed or ten thousand. "We don't know how many complaints have been made", Boro said.
Boro further added that the ABSU don’t want genuine citizens to suffer. “The report is not based on any truth...someone made it up. We just said that we will look after genuine citizens and will raise objections against post-1971 arrived immigrants,” he mentioned.
It is to be mentioned that on Monday, Assam State Jamiat Ulema secretary Maulana Fazul Kashimi addressed the media saying that the minority organization had a discussion with the ABSU leader to withdraw the 1 lakh objections filed by ABSU and All Assam Student Union (AASU) members in the BTAD area. He alleged that the students' bodies have forced people to file nominations against the minority people based on language and religion.
He also mentioned that over 5 lakh objections have been filed as the NRC proceeding are going on, with objections even being filed against dead people.
Moreover, Kashimi added that the minority organization does not have any objection over filing of objections against people migrating into the state after March 25, 1971, but the people migrating before the dateline should not be harassed.
