DHUBRI: To prevent boat accidents, the Department of Inland Water Transport, Dhubri, and the District Administration organised a five-day training programme for the boat driver and handymen.
In collaboration with the Assam Directorate of Inland Water Transport and Dhubri District Administration took the initiative of five days training program for various boat drivers and handymen registered with the aim of ensuring passengers' safety.
The training camp, which gets underway today at the Dhubri District Library Auditorium under the World Bank's fund of the Assam Inland Water Transport Project, was officially opened by Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Anbamuthan MP.
Regarding the training programme, the Deputy Commissioner of the district said that the government is very careful in protecting passengers life in water transport, the aftermath of the tragic boat accident held in Nimatighat in Jorhat district.
The programme has been taken up as it has become very urgent informed, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Dhubri Manas Saikia and explained to the participants how participating in the training camp will benefit them.

About 200 boatmen and handymen-helpers have participated in the first batch of training camps, which will continue for two days.
The next batch of training will start on Wednesday.
At the end of the training, everyone will be greeted with a certificate.
Retired Naval Officer, Kamlesh Chandra Choudhary imparts training to boat drivers and handymen through virtual means, Captain Sourav Khaund, Consultant and Retired Naval Officer and Naveen Sharma, Social Development Expert, Inland Water Transport Development Committee were also present as content persons and trained boat drivers and handymen to ensure passengers safety.
In the next few days, the three of them will operate the training program safely, in subjects such as passengers safety, avoiding accidents, minimum amenities to be provided in a boat and their use informed, Deputy Commissioner of Dhubri Anbamuthan MP.
