PATHSALA: The prime accused in the petrol-bomb attack on the house of AGP (Assam Gana Parishad) leader and educationist Dr. Ranjit Deka was finally nabbed on Monday.

The accused has been identified as Mintu Ali (24), a resident of Pathsala town in the Bajali district of Assam.

Mintu Ali Mintu reportedly hurled petrol bombs at Deka's house around 9 pm on August 7.

Deka's family members were present in the house at the time of the incident. However, Deka himself was not at home.

According to reports, Mintu Ali has also allegedly threatened Ranjit Deka's wife from an unknown phone number half an hour after the incident.

Dharmendra Das, Superintendent of Police of Bajali Police Station said that Ali has been traced based on that very mobile number.

Police have also seized a laptop and 13 mobile phone sets from Mintu Ali's home and are said to be investigating further.

Deka, who is the founder and director of the Anandaram Borooah Academy, a well-known private educational institute in Pathsala, contested as an AGP candidate in the last Assam Assembly elections from the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency.

The Assam Assembly elections were held on March and April 2021 in three phases.
