In the interest of the public service, the Government of Assam has declared public holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act (1881) in the districts where the general elections to the Lok Sabha 2019 will take place.
A public holiday has been declared on April 11, 2019, in the districts of Biswanath, Saraideu, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Nagaon, Sivasagar, Sonitpur and Tinsukia on account of the first phase of the general elections.
Likewise, a public holiday has been declared on April 18, 2019, in the districts of Cachar, Darang, Dima Hasao, Hailakandi, Hojia, Kamrup, Karbi Anglong, Karimganj, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Udalguri and West Karbi Anglong falling in the second phase of the general elections.
In the same way, there will be a public holiday on April 23 in the districts of Baksa, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Dhubri, Goalpara, Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Kokrajhar, Nalbari, and South Salmara on account of the third phase of the general elections.
All the government, non-government officials, educational institutions, business establishments including bank, tea garden, and industries, etc., within the jurisdiction of the above-mentioned districts with their respective phase, will remain closed on account of this public holiday under the N.I Act.
