Guwahati, January 1, 2020:

Barsha Rani Bishaya, one of the leading actresses from Assam, lashed out at the ruling Sarbananda Sonowal-led administration, and said that the struggle against the Citizenship Amendment Act (or CAA movement) is a battle to save the identity of the indigenous Assamese.

Reacting to allegations that she has an "agenda" for taking part in the CAA movement, said that her 'motherland' Assam is her agenda. "Foreigners will come to Assam and stay here -- I will never accept that", Barsha thundered, adding, "I do not know much about politics, but I feel Assam in my heart."

"Students sould have been roaming around with their partners and eating out, but because of the Government, the students have been forced to protest", she said, adding that leaders will emerge from the troupe of students and they will restore Assam to her former glory.

"We will be global -- but before that, we have to be regional, Barsha said, stating that the people of the State need a place to stand upon." The protest against 'CAA' is not a protest against any community or any religion. This is a protest for safeguarding our indigenous identity", the actress observed.

The 'Ratnakar' star also paid homage to noted theatre personality, who passed away yesterday, and lauded his role in the anti-CAA protests "At a time when Assamese people are trolling the protesters on social media, the 90 year old man was protesting on his wheelchair raising his voice against the 'CAA'...", the actress said.
