Moran, June 6, 2019:

Hundreds of panic stricken villagers on Thursday flocked to the Moran Primary Health Centre after apparently eating pork that was reportedly bitten by a dog suffering from rabies.

The incident took place at Khowang Kolouluwa Deori Village. Villagers after eating pork got panicked when someone spread the word that the pork had been bitten by a rabies afflicted canine.

“We are afraid after eating the pork if the disease of rabies spreads,” one villager told Inside Northeast.

However, health officials brushed aside the fear and said those who have consumed the cooked meat need not worry.

“We have taken precautionary measures. Our medical team has visited the place. And there is no need to worry. We have vaccinated more than hundreds people,” a health official said.

It may be mentioned that Rabies is a virus that is usually spread by the bite or scratch of an animal. By the time the symptoms appear, it is generally too late to save the patient. However, a person who may have been exposed to rabies can usually be treated effectively if they seek help at once.
