GUWAHATI: The Raijor Dal has finally reacted today to the Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs's doubtful questions on Akhil Gogoi's health and demand to put him back in jail.

Yesterday, when Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi reached at the Assam Legislative Assembly for his swear-in ceremony as Sibsagar MLA, BJP legislators Prashanta Phukan, Numal Momin and Terash Gowalla had raised questions over Gogoi's bad health, as he appeared to be completely healthy to them, and also said that there is no need for the Assam government to waste money on his treatment and he should be sent back to jail instead.

Bhasco De Saikia, working president of Raijor Dal, responded to that and said, "On court's order a medical board was constructed by the Assam Health Department has been doing Akhil Gogoi's treatment as he is not very well. If someone still demands against it then we would like to request that if his health is actually well then the medical board must let him go and we have nothing to comment on that."

Saikia added further, "But if he gets sent back to jail out of conspiracy inpite of his illness, as many jails have already turned into COVID hotspot, then the Assam Government, the health department and the health minister have to take all the responsibilities in case something happens to him."

Raijor Dal also took a jibe at Duliajan MLA Terash Gowala and said, “Terash Gowalla had used some unparliamentary words against Akhil Gogoi. A person who let his greed overtake his principles as an MLA and he resigned, after getting people’s mandate, to become the Director of Assam Gas Company. Now he will question Akhil Gogoi. It shows their pettiness.”

Raijor Dal also appealed to the Assam Government to release Akhil Gogoi as he is an elected legislator now and has his duties to fulfill.

"Cases filed against Akhil Gogoi are based on two unknown witnesses, whose name and identification have been kept in secrecy, apart from which NIA could not provide a single evidence against Akhil Gogoi," said Bhasco Saikia. “Hence we urge the government to stop this forged investigation against Akhil Gogoi based on some forged witnesses.”

Raijor Dal informed that Sibsagar MLA Akhil Gogoi had given a memorandum to Water Resource Minister Pijush Hazarika about Disangmukh soil erosion and Hazarika assured Gogoi of quick action.

Akhil Gogoi has also urged to provide compensation to the victims of the Sivasagar station chariali fire break out and handed over a memorandum to Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Jogen Mohan regarding the same.
