RAJBONGSHI’S PLEA FOR INCLUSION OF THE TRIBE IN ST

Guwahati, February 25, 2019:

Leaders from the Rajbongshi community of Bodoland Territorial Council today met Union Minister For Tribal Affairs Sri Juel Oram in New Delhi and requested him to expedite the process of Inclusion of Koch Rajbongshi in Schedule Tribe(ST) list.

The minister informed that under the present criteria, Koch Rajbongshi cannot be included in the ST list. The minister also informed that his Ministry has been trying to change the criteria, but there is still some problems coming from different states in the process of changing criteria and the modality.

It may take time for changing the criteria and it is necessary for clearance and views from Registrar General of India and National Commission for Schedule Tribe.

Now the modality lies on the committee under the Ministry of Home Affairs which will examine the issue and henceforth the report from the MHA is awaited.

The delegation was led by President of Koch Rajbongshi Sanmilan, BTC region Sri Bhaben Chandra Barman.
