New Delhi, March 16, 2020:

The President of India via a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs today nominated Ranjan Gogoi to the council of state to fill the vacancy caused due to retirement of one of the nominated members.

Ranjan Gogoi (born 18 November 1954) is an Indian jurist who served as the 46th Chief Justice of India. His term as Chief Justice was from 3 October 2018 till 17 November 2019. On 9 November 2019, the five judge bench headed by him delivered the verdict in the historical and controversial Ayodhya dispute case. He was nominated to Rajya Sabha by President Kovind on 16th March 2020.
