India’s possible biggest catch of international animals smuggled into the country. Rare and exotic animals from Africa, South America, Madagascar, Indonesia and Myanmar in the massive consignment destined to New Delhi. A major breakthrough by Assam police on the 24th of March, one person from Uttar Pradesh arrested with the consignment on the outskirt of Guwahati. The consignment was smuggled through Mizoram.
Three palm size monkey from the thick canopied rain forest of South America (Marmosat), Couple of exotic pets (Sugar Glider), Two burrowing Mongoose (Merekat), Huge Turtle form Seychelles Aldabra Island (Aldabra Turtle), Two rare Albino Burmese Python, One Giant Scorpion of Africa, one Saharan Spring tailed Lizzard, four most venomous snake of Africa (Gaboon Viper) concealed in cages were rescued by Assam police.
Alerted by the suspicious actions of the owner of the vehicle which was travelling from Aizawl in Mizoram, Jorabat Police checked the consignment in vehicle. One Pradip Kumar from Uttar Pradesh has been arrested by the police along with the driver of the vehicle. On interrogation it was revealed that all these animals have been smuggled into the country from Myanmar through Mizoram. After reaching Guwahati the consignment was supposed to be carried by the train to New Delhi.
The animal at present are been kept in the Assam State Zoo. The zoo authorities however are working upon providing a rain forest condition to the Marmosat, a queer monkey that fits in a palm.
