Assam Director General of Police (DGP), Kuladhar Saikia on Saturday held a crucial meeting with top police officials of the State in Guwahati ahead of the publication of the final draft of National Register of Citizens (NRC).
As per the Supreme Court orders, the final draft NRC is to be published on July 31.
The objective of the meeting was to discuss how to handle misconduct or tackle unrest situation that may take place after the publication of the final NRC draft. The DGP also said that if required, the police force will be increased as per requirement.

On the other hand, the other top Police officials informed that all the SPs have been asked to prepare their own plan to avoid any problematic situation. To maintain peace and prevent any untoward situations, senior officers have been given specific duties.
It is to be mentioned that there are also possibilities that the publication date may get postponed as the state and the central government has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking till August 31 for re-verification before the final publication.
