After multiple repots which claimed that Rebati Phukan, the mediator between the Government of India and the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) of joining the ULFA-I, the outfit termed the reports as baseless and fabricated.
Romel Axom, member of ULFA-I's publicity department in a press statement said the ULFA-I has not appointed any general secretary in the organisation but since the Indian intelligence sources were unable to trace Phukan, they shared this "false" information with the media.
It may be mentioned that Rebati Phukan who has been missing since April 22 was a close friend of ULFA-I C-in-C Paresh Baruah.
Over the past few days, there were reports of Phukan joining the ULFA-I as a general secretary.
