Protesting India’s alleged occupation of the Northeast, the Coordination Committee (CorCom), which is a conglomerate of insurgent groups of Manipur, and the Paresh Baruah faction of United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) have jointly called for boycott of Independence Day celebration in the region on August 15.

In a joint statement, the outfits appealed to people “to be alert and make the boycott a complete success as was done before as a mark of solidarity against Indian occupation”.

They said a total shutdown would be observed from 1 am to 6:30 pm on that day in the entire region of WESEA (Western South East Asia). However, all emergency services, including medical, media, religious and flood relief activities, have been exempted from the purview of the bandh.
