GUWAHATI: Leaders of the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) and 'Raijor Dal' today reiterated that a regional government will come to power after the ensuing Assembly polls in Assam, tentatively scheduled in April.

AJP President Lurin Jyoti Gogoi said that due to the anti-people and anti-indigenous policies of the BJP party must be defeated jointly by the 'uncompromising regional powers' of the state.

"We have been expressing our opinions for a long time. There is no alternative but an uncompromising regional solution to resolve the problems plaguing Assam," Lurin stated, adding that the new regionalism will seek to protect and preserve the language, culture, and identity of Assam.

The AJP supremo also promised that he would reach out to other 'uncompromising regional parties' with no linkages to the national parties to contest the polls.

Party's General Secretary Jagadish Bhuyan promised that the AJP-Raijor Dal combine would work tirelessly to defeat the 'CAA'.

Bhasco de Saikia, the working president of 'Raijor Dal', said that the 'Raijor Dal' and the AJP have chosen to band together for the polls to stop the "fascistic" BJP and RSS from coming to power again.

"Both the parties have been born to counter the fake nationalism of the BJP--RSS and the betrayal of the AGP. For long, we have felt the need to send the BJP packing from Assam. Therefore, it makes sense for us to join the AJP, as they have a common ideology."
