Renowned Assamese singer Archana Mahanta known for timeless classics such as 'Brahmaputra Balire', died here on Thursday. The acclaimed singer breathed her last at the Health City hospital where she had been undergoing treatment for over a month now.
It may be mentioned that the popular singer had suffered a brain stroke on July 14. The acclaimed folk singer was admitted to Health City Hospital in Guwahati in a critical condition. Mahanta is the widow of late Khagen Mahanta who passed away in 2014 and is the mother of youth hearthrob Angaraag "Papon" Mahanta. She leaves behind two grandchildren, Puhor and Parijaat. She also has a daughter, Kingkini Mahanta.
A pall of gloom descends throughout the state with the sad demise of the legendary singer. Assam chief minister expressed grief and condolences over Mahanta’s death.
