Reacting to the rumours of joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) party, Mukul Sangma, former Chief Minister of Meghalaya and longtime member of the Congress party, said that these are all ‘nonsense’ and rubbished the reports.
Speaking to Inside Northeast, Mukul Sangma said that these reports have no grounds in reality and "nothing but all nonsense". He categorically denied the rumours of joining the saffron unit.
Earlier, certain sections of media reported that Mukul Sangma is likely to join the Congress' rivals, the BJP, in the near future.
Taking to Twitter, Sangma wrote, "All nonsense! I am asking Cyber Crime Cell @MeghalayaPolice to investigate and track the source of this misinformation with criminal, malafide and defamatory intent."
As per the rumour mill, former Dibrugarh MP Paban Singh Ghatowar, who was vanquished this year by Rameswar Teli, was also said to be in talks with the saffron unit. Meanwhile, Ghatowar has also come out and rubbished the rumors of him joining the BJP.
It is to be mentioned that Mukul Sangma, the leader of the opposition in Meghalaya, was one of the staunchest opposers of the BJP-floated Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in the lead-up to its demise at the Rajya Sabha earlier this year.
