The global Covid19 pandemic has left no place secured in the world. In such unprecedented times, the cases of corona positives have too risen in Assam. So far, as on June 4th, the state has recorded 1877 cases. Of the 1877 cases, 1457 are active and 413 have been cured or discharged. Four people have died of the infection in the state so far.
Assam has crossed the 1000-mark in 60 days. It reported the first case on March 31st, 2020. So far, 47 new cases have been detected on 4th June.
Inside Northeast has been tracking the day on day data ever since May 22nd to understand the patterns. As per the findings, the highest spike recorded previously was on May 30th with 159 positive cases, followed by May 25th with 147 cases. However, on June 3rd, 269 cases were recorded on a single day. In that, on June 3rd there were 193 more cases increase and on May 25, 101 cases from the respective previous days. From May 30 to June 1 cases were increasing less than 50 but since June 2 the spike has increased with more than 50 days increasing each day. This corroborates the fact that India has not yet reached its peak as the cases are rising every day. The country's peak has been discussed by the medical fraternity. "While predictions vary from May to August and keep changing depending on parameters used according to modeling data and the way our cases are increasing currently, it is likely that our case peak can come in June and July. There are many variables to this and an exact prediction isn’t possible,” said Dr. Guleria, AIIMS director, as reported by TOI. Assam has the highest number of confirmed coronavirus cases followed by Tripura. The reason for the highest number of cases in Northeast can be narrowed down to reasons: more influx of migrants as compared to other states, increased amount of testing, viral spread from few unknown cases (in Bongaigaon). However, it would be wrong to presume that the current status quo will remain. Much will be changed as inter-state travels intensify and health infrastructures within the state are pushed to the extremes. Readers like you make Inside Northeast’s work possible.
