GUWAHATI: Baroliya river has washed off a bamboo bridge yesterday, which was built by the villagers with their own savings, in Dwarkuchi situated in the home constituency, Tamulpur, of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) chief Pramod Boro.
The bamboo bridge in Lachighat had connected Dwarkuchi-Rangapani-Kaurbaha.
Notably, the village is not very far from Pramod Boro's home village either.
Not very long ago, there used to be a wooden bridge in Lachighat, but that was washed off by the river a few years back as well and no government representative had paid any attention.
"We have been requesting the government for a bridge and we would like to do the same again to our new chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and BTR chief Pramod Boro. But if they do not listen to our urges then we would be left with no other options rather than staging democratic protests," said Taison Hussain, General Secretary of ABMSU.

Villagers, to keep their communication uninterrupted, have been repairing the bamboo bridge with their own money every year. But since the bridge has been hugely damaged by the river this time, the only way of communication for the villagers has been interrupted, especially at a time when the whole state is facing a medical emergency.
"Our urges and applications for a bridge are not new things. This is our BTR chief Pramod Boro's home constituency and it is our demand to him that he should take initiative by himself to build a bridge for these people and relieve them from the misery they have been facing for years," said Badaruddin Khan, President of Tamulpur ABMSU.
