“ Matsya Jagaran – Ghore Ghore Pukhuri, Ghore Ghore Maachh ” programme has been launched to promote sustainable pisciculture. An additional provision have been added to forward the scheme in this year. A project proposal amounting to Rs. 3400 crore for Assam Fisheries Development & Livelihoods Project seeking funding from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have been prepared to attain self-sufficiency in fish production in Assam. Moreover this project aims to develop community tanks & tanks in private land and complement the Chief Ministers’ Samagra Gramya Unnayan Yojana (CMSGUY) in which a dedicated cell for project preparation and monitoring is already established by including the project proposal in the annual rolling plan of JICA by the Government of India and the State Government. A Sum of 500 un-registered wetlands in Assam are to be restored and the development of small indigenous fish species, fresh water

shrimp culture will be focused and with that fresh water pearl culture in Assam will be introduced. Further to facilitate propagation and restoration of endangered species of fish and conserving the Fish Biodiversity of the State, the Fisheries Department is also developing a directory of indigenous fish species. A data base and a gene bank for indigenous fish species at an estimated cost of Rs.9.36 crore project is kept for future plans while a total amount of Rs 160 crore is proposed for the year 2018-19.
