In a recent development, the top brass of the Assam Police has directed the Superintendant of Police(SP) of all districts to keep a tab on students politics in their jurisdiction. All the SP’s have been also asked to collect the data related to number of educational institutions/colleges along with different student organizations present in their jurisdiction as well as the names and contact details of the office bearers and their digital domain presence like website, facebook/twitter account. This development has come in the wake of some prominent leaders of RSS passed some inflammatory remarks on the student community at the Gauhati University(GU) on February 10 which led to volatile situation in the GU campus.
The letter issued by the ADGP(SB) to the SP’s read as; “There was a change of power in the state of Assam in 2016. BJP came into power in the state. After sensing the opportunity and favourable environment ABVP, RSS and such like minded organizations supporting party in power devised a strategy to enter into the students wings of the colleges and universities, which were earlier dominated by organizations like AASU and NSUI”.
In conclusion, can it be ascertained that, is the RSS making inroad into educational institutions too? RSS is known to be interfering in the helm of affairs of politics in the country. Should the RSS indulge in students politics too?
