Assam on Tuesday observed the death anniversary (Tirobhava Tithi) of Vaishnavite saint-reformer Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev.

Hundreds of devotees and followers of the saint observed the day in religious way. Naam and kirtanas were held in the naamghars and the Sattras of Barpeta, Majuli and Batadrava.
The devotees chanted verses to the beats of khol and bhur-taal in praise of the saint. Cultural processions were also taken out with kirtanas sung in the name of Sankardev.
